Sri Lankan Adventure

I would like to use this opportunity to wish Adam and Jimmy R the very best of luck in their adventure to the rainforests (or jungle - not sure which is technically applicable again) of Sri Lanka: Good luck.

If you would like to follow their adventure, as I will be doing, then tales of their voyage should be available via following either the Joe & Cozza or Adam and Rosie links.

Werd to your respective mothers! Have a good time! Take lots of photos! And I'll see you when you're back in blighty.

MJ out.

Two in a row for South Bank

YORK, UK: SOUTH BANK RE-UNITED SECURED a well earned 2-1 victory today, at the tent. After last week's 5-1 win, the team went into this match with high hopes and in good mood.

Today provided a tenser and closer match than the previous game, however, it always looked as though South Bank had the advantage. This showed itself very early on in the first half, with a highly-powered shot from Hampus which the other team's keeper was unable to keep out. South Bank's keeper for today, on loan, was Dave, who kept and commanded his goal and area well. Although, he was to let one goal in, which levelled the match 1-1 (the opposition's only shot on target), he ultimately proved his worth to the team's cause.

Captain, Jon, played well as always, keeping out the opposition strikers with strong tackles and plenty of gusto. He won many key interceptions and tackles, that, if gone the other way, could have been fatal to South Bank's hopes. Andy, played a strong midfield position and supplied the through-ball to one of the goals. Hampus hustled and bustled about with the defenders of the other team and also had a good game. South Bank striker, "Medway" broke his duck to score the winner and take the score to 2-1, before the half-time whistle.

In the second half, South Bank Re-United set out defiantly to keep their one goal lead, and continued to do so until referee's concluding blow. There was a tense atmosphere at the tent as South Bank threw everything at the opposition, to secure the full points, and were well rewarded for their efforts. Andy had a few chances, and could have scored a couple of his own and indeed came close to doing so.

The mood after the match was high and the team look forward to the coming fixtures with some confidence. Captain, Jon, was clearly delighted with the team's performance, which had been strong throughout the match and if South Bank's form continues, the optimistic thoughts for the coming fortnight are well placed ones. Medway was glad to have scored his first goal and Hampus was pleased to have got the first one in again. Manager, Michael, was pleased with the team and what they had achieved and shares their optimism about the coming games, again, like last week, summing up, simply with "beautiful".

There will be jubilation throughout North Yorkshire and the West Riding tonight!

Historic Victory for South Bank!

YORK, UK: SPIRITS WERE HIGH in the build-up to today's match, and they, if anything increased by the time of the full-time whistle, with South Bank Reunited cruising to a historic 5-1 victory at the tent.

South Bank opened their account very early on with a beautifully driven shot by Swedish international, Hampus, and with two more goals in quick succession by the Englishman, Martin, the team made sure that the opposition were rattled very early on. Indeed, Tim's team hardly settled for the rest of the game, and eventually left with their tails between their legs.

The opposition did attempt to salvage some dignity from the match, however, scoring a soft consolation goal, to bring the match to 3-1, and as they got more desperate, the more scrappy their challenges got. Alas (for them), Thai international struck in South Bank's fourth, in much style. Martin, given the chance of getting a well-earned hat trick, sealed the match, with a well position penalty, that took the score to 5-1.

Those who didn't score, included the captain John, who, as always was busy hustling in defence, and keeping out South Bank's foe. John, also being one of the key architects in some important tactical changes, that found fruiting in today's match. The South Bank goal was further, dutifully kept by Andy, who kept out the attempts of the opposing side, and also, as always, was a dominating figure in his area. Also, subbing on at half time, Michael (MJ) made a post-man flu appearance (we know how serious those can be), in defence (even if he did spend a wee time wandering about his own area), and did his bit in his second cap of the season.

After the match, it was only just sinking in, what a tremendous victory South Bank had secured. "Beautiful", said Michael. "I don't think Tim's happy", John concluded. "The girls missed a classic" pointed out another. So, did Medway, who allegedly had "studies". Indeed, they all did miss a classic; a classic, that quite frankly outshines any amount of the Olympic's skeleton boarding, or Scotish Women mucking about with brushes.

There will be jubilation on the streets of York tonight!

Just to remind everyone: South Bank Reunited 5 (3) - Other Team 1 (0)
Line-up: Andy (goalkeeper), John (Captain), Vaz, Hampus, Martin

South Bank robbed

YORK, UK: South Bank Reunited fought a magnificent game last Friday afternoon, although they lost by the narrow margin, of 2-1. The two goals scored by the opponents were nothing special, and generally against the run of play (and including a large slice of luck in both instances).

There were many champagne moments of the match, to accompany Hampus' beautifully driven goal, which almost carried the keeper into his own net. The South Bank Reunited's goal was kept very safe, with some career defining penalty saves by Mr. Dean. Singaporean defender Vas, made an important appearence, creating a lot of problems for the strikers of the opposing side, especially his devilish slide-tackles. Medway made a few jinking runs into the box and captain John worked well at the back.

Although, manager, Mr. MJ Johns-Perring, was there for the match, he was laid off sick, and he also apologises for the short nature of this match summary, however believes the performance on Friday was certainly the best seen this term, and clearly a sign of how the team will proceed in the future. With seven players, all gearing up for the next match, captain John, suggested we had the ability to go further. Support for the match included, as ever, the head of the supporters club and chairman. Also appearing this week was Ms. Craig.

A dream team for sure

I was watching the television today and was amazed by a film, which included a football match between an "Allied" team, with key players including Pele, Michael Caine and Sylvester Stallone (Stallone being in goal) vs the favoured football team of the Wehrmacht.

Beautiful game. Not sure how many times Pele scored the winner with an overhead kick, in slow motion. Stallone saved the all important penalty and all.

If any one know what that film was called, do tell.

Second defeat surprises South Bank

YORK, UK: "A MAN TRAVELS THE WORLD, in search of what he needs and returns home to find it." This quote has little to do with the following match report.

Last Friday, South Bank Reunited's game was delayed for such a time that manager, MJ was unable to see either half. MJ missed the match, however, Mr. MDJ Barnard who was present, with a good crowd of avid supporters, to the spectacle. Early reports indicate that South Bank had lost 6-0, which was not expected considering that the team returned to full strength. For further analysis, it is hoped that Mr. MDJ Barnard will be making a post soon, in order to calm the frayed nerves of the many thousands of South Bank supporters who may be becoming a little concerned.
